Good Afternoon,

Now that I have dried out and figured out how to blog, I wanted to test this and circulate a thought I had since the retreat. It seemed to me in the team name organizing exercise that there were certain people in my group (like myself) that had a hard time going with an "out of the box" solution to the problem. I have been thinking about this, and it seems that some professions encourage more risktaking and creative thinking, where others don't and the repercussions can be pretty severe. I was wondering if anyone else had thoughts along those lines.

Great to meet you all, and I look forward to seeing you all in October.

Anne

Another thought on the topic areas. I know we're most likely working hard to make it more focused, rather than adding more items but it struck me that "Trade" would be a great addition to to the topic areas under Economic Develoment, which I also think was not on this year's list. International Trade and Globalization has been a part of NH heritage since the early Strawberry Banke days, and is a signficant part of our economy today. I would be curious about the impact of trade in NH, how the state supports trade, and who are some of the companies that are doing the most of it here. CWW

My first ever blog entry. My kids won't believe I've entered the 21st century. what's next text messaging!!

Random thought about our adventure up North: I don't see this as a leadership exercise. To me it's a fabulous adult learning experience with an extremely high caliber group of classmates. I hope to be better educated and experienced. Maybe LearningNH, but only leaders may apply.

Spending most of my time in that tiny little demographic of southern NH high tech, it is great to be working with a group of people from such different professional and geographic areas. And, being a geek at heart, any time I'm forced to come out of my shell and interact with people is a positive, though tiring, experience.

I've become pretty jaded and cynical about group building and leadership training exercises over the years. Too often they resemble an episode of "The Office" more than their intended effect. But I have to say that I had a great time, and the two days made me even more excited to move on to the topics we're going to cover.

That reminds me -- I have to start my homework!!!

I had a fabulous time at the retreat. I was skeptical of the kinds of "team building" exercises we would need to participate in but was very surprised and extreamly pleased with the experiences.

Anne, I think that life is about pushing the limits and living outside the box. I feel that learning is food for the soul. I am fortunate that I work at a place that allows creativity and exploration.

See you all next month.

Greetings from the North Country!

THE RED SOX WON LAST NIGHT! (stressful to be driving and listening to the game on the radio, but it's all good now)

I wanted to say that I was truly impressed with yesterday's session (and the brewery tour wasn't bad either). We are a large, diverse group (not unlike the state of NH) and with a seemingly overwhelming topic, What is NH? to define, understand and explain. I think that we did a fantastic job in creating some consensus, despite our individual opinions, special areas of focus, etc. I am proud to be part of such an intelligent, caring, engaged and motivated group of individuals that care about this state. We have so many opportunities awaiting our attention and I know that we are going to do great things!

See you in November!

Linda L.
